July 21, 2020 Update:
To keep residents informed, the Board is providing an update on construction progress and actions due to Covid-19.
The “emergency” shoreline revetment work has been completed stabilizing the west shoreline with 1,750 tons of armor stone and concrete rubble. Additional work to rebuild the West Bank will proceed as funds are available and final permitting work is completed. There is no access to the shoreline from the park. Additionally, four truck loads of sand has been added to the volleyball court.
Due to the coronavirus, it has been unfortunate that reservations, concerts, children’s playground, basketball court, east pavilion and east restroom have all been canceled or closed. However, numerous actions are done daily to keep families safe when in the park. Social distancing signs have been posted. The west restroom is closed at 8:15 P.M. so operators can do a complete power washing followed by the spray sanitizing of all fixtures and surfaces. The Park closes at sunset (see link below) so operators can continue the daily sanitizing work before it is too dark to complete. All benches and swings along the bank are sanitized daily as well as all trash receptacles. These decisions have all been made with visitor safety as a top priority.
This has been a challenging year for everyone and the Board appreciates the patience and understanding of the residents of Saybrook.
